Brief History

A Brief History of Al-Anwar College

Before its establishment in October 2015, Muslim children in the region faced significant challenges in accessing conventional education, as Islamic schools predominantly shaped the educational landscape. This gap inspired the founding of Al-Anwar College, a vision brought to life through the unwavering dedication and generosity of its founding father, Goni Nura Yahya Salihu. The institution began as a co-educational school with a modest enrollment of 58 students and a committed team of six teachers. Voluntarily registered with the Kano State Ministry of Education, the college was authorized to offer Tahfeez education at the junior level and Western education at the senior level, laying a strong foundation for its academic mission.

In 2019, Al-Anwar College expanded its academic offerings, introducing comprehensive programs with two distinct departments—Science and Arts—at the senior level. Like a crescent moon gradually waxing into its full splendor, the college has achieved remarkable success, driven by a carefully selected team of highly competent and disciplined staff who have devoted themselves wholeheartedly to the service of humanity. Their tireless efforts have propelled the institution to prominence, earning it numerous accolades and awards from esteemed academic stakeholders. This recognition has also spotlighted the exceptional talents of students such as Ahmad Hamza Yunus, Abubakar Adam Abdullahi, Khadija Hamza Yunus, Khadija Dawud Yusuf, Isma’il Salman, Fatima Ashafa Abubakar, Ahmad Aliyu Abdurrahman, Yusuf Muhammad Abdulwahab, Safwan Salman, and others, whose achievements have become a testament to the college’s commitment to excellence.

A significant milestone was reached in 2020 when Al-Anwar College registered with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO). This paved the way for the graduation of its inaugural class in 2021, a cohort that achieved an extraordinary 99.8% pass rate in both WAEC and NECO examinations. This stellar performance opened doors for many graduates to secure admission into universities and other tertiary institutions, a testament to their outstanding results in the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

Today, Al-Anwar College stands as a beacon of educational excellence, boasting an enrollment of over 900 students and a dedicated staff of 77. With profound gratitude, we celebrate the realization of over 85% of our founding objectives. The relentless commitment of our staff, whose efforts are truly worth their weight in gold, has been instrumental in achieving these milestones. We remain steadfast in our mission to nurture talent, foster academic excellence, and contribute meaningfully to society, confident that the future holds even greater promise for Al-Anwar College.?
